Amitabh Varshney, Professor of Computer Science and Dean of the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS), directs Maryland Blended Reality Center activities at the College Park campus. Varshney's research focus is on exploring the applications of high-performance computing and visualization in engineering, science, and medicine. He has worked on a number of research areas including visual saliency, summarization of large visual datasets, and visual computing for big data. He is currently exploring applications of virtual and augmented reality in several applications, including healthcare and telemedicine.

Sarah Murthi, Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, directs Maryland Blended Reality Center activities in Baltimore. Murthi has extensively published in the field of ultrasound and has developed and validated novel applications, including the Focused Rapid Echocardiographic Evaluation (FREE). She has been awarded several grants from the Department of Defense, and has real-world experience bringing technological ideas into common clinical practice.

Barbara Brawn-Cinani is Associate Director of the Maryland Blended Reality Center at College Park. She earned a B.S. in Astronomy, a B.S. in Physics, and an M.S. in Physics from UMD, and has done hands-on research in fields ranging from fluid dynamics to single-molecule manipulation. She now works closely with faculty, students and staff at the Center to significantly expand research collaborations, business development and student opportunities at both institutions.
